American members of the RCBfA might recall Miss Muti from the forgettable (except for Miss Muti and Max von Sydow) Flash Gordon…(C’mon, you know you saw it) Most of her career has been in European films. You know the ones, where there is no plot, per se, but the scenery is beautiful and nicely fills up the time between the sporting in the altogether scenes. There are many things to see in Italy.

I’m watching her in the splendid seven-hour Count of Monte Cristo made for French television, with Gerard Depardieu in the leading role. Ms. Muti plays the Comtesse de Morcerf. Not only is the scenery beautiful, but there is more plot than you can shake a stick at! I recommend it strongly.

The second best thing about Flash Gordon is the Queen soundtrack. Oh, it also had the worst James Bond in it, and as we all know James Bond is like pizza and sex. Even bad James Bond is pretty damn good.

She is going to be the next Sophia Loren. This is to say that she will be the next actress to be just as alluring at 70 as she was at 30. I think I saw photos of her from the Venice Film Festival and thought that she was dating a particularly young man – only to read the caption and see it was her son escorting her…

I should also fess up and admit that not only do I own Flash Gordon on DVD, but I own the special “Master of the Universe” edition of the film on DVD.

I felt it my duty after, ah, contemplating Miss Muti for a while, to immediately nip over and toss Flash Gordon in the Netflix queue since I have never actually seen it.
I’m pretty sure there is some sort of requirement in the RCBfA bylaws about this sort of thing, isn’t there? And anyway, one likes to keep informed.

Yes Mr. Cusack, that’s the one where Gerard Depardieu’s Count mysteriously looses no weight after all those years in prison…Must have had a good chef…
Robbo, Flash is not a requirement at this time, but I believe Max is putting forward a motion at the next Conclave, so it might be wise to check it out now…
FLiG, surely Mr. Dalton was a tad better than Mr. Lazenby? No? But yes, even the worst, is still bad in a good way, think of the film Moonraker for instance…Now that was bad…
Thank you Max, for reminding me that we need to see some Sophi Loren (at any age) pictures…

Basil, bien sûr, it’s a French prison, after all.

Robbo… Flash Gordon is an awful movie. I mean really awful. It has Ornella and Max Von Sydow… But gosh it is bad. I recommend “fortifying” yourself before viewing.
